COVID-19 Cases Continue to Spike in Northeast Georgia

The Northeast Health District added 126 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 with release of the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report on Monday.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases in the 10-county district topped 100 for the first time ever. The average jumped from 96.1 on Sunday to 104.1 on Monday.

Oconee County added seven new cases, and Clarke County added 38 on Monday. Every county in the district added at least one new confirmed COVID-19 case.

The Northeast Health District added one death, of an 86-year-old man in Barrow County with a chronic condition. (An 87-year-old man with a chronic condition moved from Barrow to Gwinnett County on Sunday remained on the Gwinnett County list on Monday.)

The seven-day rolling average of added deaths for the Northeast Health District increased from 1.1 on Sunday to 1.3 on Monday.

The number of available critical care beds at area hospitals dropped from 14 to 11 in the Georgia Emergency Management Agency Situation Report COVID-19 on Monday.

The number of long-term care facilities on the Georgia Community Health list of facilities with COVID-19 increased by one with the addition of the Nancy Hart Nursing Center in Elberton.

That facility and the Oaks Athens nursing home in Clarke County each added one COVID-19 positive staff in the Long-Term Care Facility Report released late on Monday.

The state of Georgia added 3,643 new COVID-19 confirmed cases in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report on Monday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 3,357.9 from 3,058.6 on Monday.
