Based on the novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House tells the story of a mansion hidden in the hills where parapsychologist John Montague invites several guests to recount their paranormal experiences to him. Two accept—a young woman named Eleanor Vance and an artist named Theodora—and they are joined by the young heir to the estate, Luke Sanderson. When the four convene at the estate, inexplicable things begin to happen. The most well-known recent adaptation of the story is Netflix’s version, directed by Mike Flanagan and released in 2018, though its story is only loosely based on the original novel. This stage version by the Winterville Players was adapted by F. Andrew Leslie and is directed by Kelly Flanders. Performances will take place Oct. 3 and Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
