Displaced in the New South is a documentary created by David Zeiger and Eric Mofford that follows the cultural collision between Asian and Hispanic immigrants and the suburban communities near Atlanta that they settled in during the 1980s and ‘90s. It highlights immigrant voices during this period, featuring a cast of memorable personalities, such as English as a second language teacher and standup comic Suttiwan Cox. Following a screening of the film, Zeiger will host a panel discussion with some of the people featured in the documentary. This event coincides with Zeiger’s photography project of the same name, which is on display through December in the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies. The project includes photographs, negatives, newspaper clippings, pamphlets and other artifacts from the documentary that depict the experiences of these immigrant families and the communities they formed.
