Austin indie folk rock band Briscoe began as the solo project of Philip Lupton in his senior year of high school, but when he and lifelong friend Truett Heintzelman arrived at the University of Texas, the project soon became a duo. Lupton and Heintzelman’s upcoming album, Heat of July, is a distillation of the pair’s recent travels across North America as they toured their debut material. The record soaks up bits of the American landscape as inspiration while also processing recent life changes, including the success of Briscoe’s debut album, West Of It All, and the recent marriage of both men to their longtime partners. It seems things will only amp up more for Briscoe with the advent of Heat of July; the band is slated for a feature at “Austin City Limits,” as well as for support tours with other big names in Americana, including Zach Bryan, Flatland Cavalry, Caamp, Shane Smith & the Saints and Houndmouth.
