Ernest Weatherly Greene Jr. is the face behind the musical project Washed Out, which is credited with helping to pioneer the chillwave genre in the 2010s. Greene, who was born in Perry and is now based in Atlanta, began releasing his signature brand of distorted dance-pop music in the late 2000s, and eventually captured the attention of several influential music bloggers through his MySpace page. He released his first EP as Washed Out in 2009, then later went on to have a song from that release, “Feel It All Around,” used as the opening theme in Portlandia. Shortly thereafter he signed to Sub Pop Records and released Within and Without, which peaked at #26 on the Billboard 200. Greene has released several albums since then, most recently 2020’s Purple Noon, and has toured around the world. His Athens show will be opened by baroque pop artist Casey MQ.
