Artist Vivian Liddell’s large-scale diptych, “Game Day (2nd Natty’s Celebration),” captures and mythologizes the UGA football team’s 2022 national championship victory. The humorous and colorful paintings depict the memorable downtown celebration that occurred after the game and include familiar scenes in Athens, from City Hall to the chapel bell tower on campus, plus some Easter eggs for art history fans. Liddell is an interdisciplinary artist who works in a variety of mediums, including painting, fiber crafts, sculpture, photography, animation and more. Since graduating from UGA with a BFA in photographic design and from the Pratt Institute with an MFA in painting, she has become an associate professor of painting and drawing at the University of North Georgia and has shown her works in exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad, though this is her first solo exhibition with ATHICA.
