Based on the 1997 film Anastasia, Anastasia the Musical tells the story of a young woman discovering the mystery of her past alongside a conman and an aristocrat while being chased down by a ruthless Soviet officer. It takes place across both the Russian Empire near its end and bustling 1920s Paris. The play was written by Tony Award-winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, who are known for other Broadway classics like Ragtime and Once on this Island. This production of Anastasia is put on by Athens Creative Theatre, a program that provides education and performance opportunities to the Athens community.
