The original 39th annual North Georgia Folk Fest was canceled in the wake of Hurricane Helene, but this mini make-up festival is keeping the spirit of the event alive. The festival is one of the main efforts of the Athens Folk Music and Dance Society, an organization dedicated to celebrating, sharing and sustaining folk, ethnic and traditional arts and music. Featured artists this year include North Georgia singer-songwriter Julia Barfield (6 p.m.), rootsy duo MrJordanMrTonks (6:45 p.m.), bluegrass outfit Borderhop Trio (7:45 p.m.) and traditional jam duo Pickled Holler (8:45 p.m.). Pat Shields will be sharing stories in between musical sets. Festival T-shirts and bandanas featuring original artwork by Peter Loose will be available for purchase at the event.
