At just 24 years old, Samara Joy has already earned her title as a critically-acclaimed jazz vocalist. Joy released her debut self-titled album in 2021 after going viral on YouTube performing a cover of “Take Love Easy” with her professor, Pete Malinverni, and starting a GoFundMe page to raise money to record. Since then, she has released her sophomore album, Linger Awhile, and has won three Grammy Awards, including the Best New Artist award in 2023, making her the second jazz singer to ever receive the honor. NPR has described Joy as a “classic jazz singer from a new generation,” calling on comparisons to artists like Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Most recently, Joy has stepped into the world of film, recording her original song “Why I’m Here” for the Netflix film Shirley.
