Atlanta-based musician Faye Webster is known for her pedal steel-infused indie stylings, which she pairs with plainspoken, introspective lyricism. Webster says, “One of my favorite things about songwriting is taking thoughts that people don’t really think are worthy, or might overlook, and highlighting them,” as can be heard in hits like “Kingston” and “In A Good Way.” Webster is highly involved in the Georgia music scene, known for popping up unexpectedly at shows in Athens and Atlanta alike. She once joined Wilco on stage for a show at The Classic Center, gave an unannounced bass performance with Atlanta band Upchuck and makes occasional appearances at Atlanta Symphony Orchestra shows, the last of which serves as the inspiration for her newest album title, Underdressed at the Symphony. Pitchfork reviewer Arielle Gordon says of the release, “she frequently steps back from the mic and allows her band, or occasionally just silence, to fill in the empty space. It’s a record about hiding—from heartbreak, from fame—that, whether through vocal processing or omission, fittingly obscures Webster from view.”
