Calendar Pick: Moon Taxi

Nashville indie rocker Moon Taxi has been around since 2006, formed when Birmingham, AL natives Trevor Terndrup (vocals, guitar) and Tommy Putnam (bass) began attending Belmont University and met guitarist Spencer Thompson and then four years later drummer Tyler Ritter. The four released their first record, a jam rock effort called Melodica, in 2004. Since then Moon Taxi has released several more studio albums, most recently 2023’s Set Yourself Free, which music magazine Music for the Misfits calls “a surprising rollercoaster from the beginning until the end, sounding fresh and eccentric, exciting and incredibly addictive.” The record, which was written on a five-way call including keyboardist Wes Bailey, jumps from rock to synth to pop to bluegrass and demonstrates the seamless movement that 15 years as a band allows. Amongst Moon Taxi’s mainstream achievements are its appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Conan,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and most recently “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” as well as at large festivals like Coachella and Hangout Music Festival.
