Calendar Pick: Sandy Creek Playground Dedication

Sandy Creek Park Playground

A new playground aimed toward accessibility for all children has recently been completed at Sandy Creek Park. Features include a roller slide that does not create cochlear implant-damaging static, augmentative and alternative communication boards for nonverbal communication, a slide embedded in a hill to avoid transferring mobility devices, braille signage and ASL communication boards, a quiet corner and much more. There will also be a play feature called Alex’s Lemonade Stand, named after Alexandra Scott, who had childhood cancer and raised over $1 million for pediatric cancer research by selling lemonade, then started Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and raised an additional $250 million. The playground has safety features including misting stations and shaded areas for cooling off, gentler turf carpet matting and a perimeter fence, as well. Families are encouraged to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this achievement towards accessibility and enjoy the new playground.
