MMCC is hosting an old-fashioned, festive event to celebrate July 4 a day early. Guests are invited to gather on the front lawn with picnic baskets, coolers, tables and chairs while enjoying a patriotic concert from the Classic City Band of Athens. This band is the oldest continuously running community band in Georgia, functioning since 1976 as a nonprofit that brings free concerts to Athens throughout the year in styles including jazz, pop, marches, traditional and classical selections, show tunes and opera. Former Athens Mayor Heidi Davison even declared them “the official municipal band of Athens” in 2006.
