Atlanta musician Jordan Reynolds’ writing and vocals, which explore female rage, intergenerational trauma, temptation and many other deeply connective topics, are the center of her newest 10-song collection, A Pawn Surrender, out June 7 under musical moniker Rose Hotel. The strong thematic showing is enhanced by a through line of lush psychedelic rock and indie folk. Reynolds’ contributions to the music scene don’t stop with Rose Hotel, though. She started her career as the keyboardist for psych-rock group Buffalo Rodeo, and is also an in-demand musician with acts like Faye Webster, Neighbor Lady, Susto and She Returns From War. She stretches out into her own musical interests and proclivities for this release, though, explaining it like a chessboard: “I started to think about these songs as if they were all different pieces on the board representing varying aspects of my songwriting, personality, and experience. Each piece has its own specific purpose and its own strength to utilize.” Reynolds will be joined by local acts McKendrick Bearden and Honeypuppy.
