Calendar Pick: Tredici Bacci

New York City’s Tredici Bacci is a love letter to Italian music. The ensemble began in 2013 as a creative outlet for composer Simon Hanes. Today, it has 13 members—though 25 are featured on the band’s newest release—who are known for cinematic performances inspired by Italian soundtracks, as exemplified on previous albums such as Amore Per Tutti and La Fine del Futuro. Tredici Bacci’s most recent album, Brave New World, embraces silliness and absurdity, but is also its most vulnerable material, defined by surreal palettes and experimental melodies and patterns. This work stretches in new directions from the band’s core as an Italian music group, though, now incorporating elements inspired by prog rock British artists and composers like Frank Zappa. Tredici Bacci’s Ciné show will also include a solo set by Atlanta folk and prog musician Klark Sound and electronic space-themed act Organically Programmed Orchestra.
