Calendar Pick: “Material Alchemy: Metal and Color” Opening Reception

Faye Hall

On view through May 22, “Material Alchemy: Metal and Color” is a group exhibition curated by Katie McCullough, Lillian McEachern and MFA metalsmith candidates Jeremy Diamond and Shaunia Grant. Investigating contemporary practices of metalsmithing both materially and conceptually, the works range from wearable to sculptural forms and consider how geography, demographics, gender and limited resources can influence artists in the field. In addition to Saturday’s opening reception, the gallery will host online talks with artists and curators (Apr. 25) and Ann Cahoon (Apr. 28), as well as in-person performances with Joe Leone and Louis Romanos (May 7), Shane Parrish (May 13) and Killick and Ravish Momin (May 16). Visit athica.org for details.
