Through textiles by David M. Hayes and watercolors by Judith K. DeJoy, the exhibition “Connections” focuses on familiarity as a theme. Hayes’ rugs are made primarily with old T-shirts carefully cut into same-sized strips that are hooked into a mat to build designs focused on color and pattern. Each small piece can take dozens of hours to complete, a slow yet rewarding process that the artist finds to be both challenging and peaceful. DeJoy’s figurative and animal watercolor paintings engage emotion by attempting to capture gesture and movement through loose, visible brushstrokes and mark-making. The exhibition will remain on view through January.
