The documentary Knights to Kings: A Journey to Ethiopia follows eight boys from Athens as they travel to the small village of Kutaber, Ethiopia. The teenagers are Classic City Knights, or participants of Chess and Community, a nonprofit that helps kids develop leadership skills through the motto “Think Before You Move.” Under the direction of poet and activist Lemuel “Life the Griot” LaRoche, they are challenged to contemplate poverty, personal identity and empowerment. The screening will be followed by a discussion on youth engagement in Athens, and representatives from various nonprofits and youth development programs will be in attendance.
