Athens Popfest Kickoff Party

Athens Popfest officially kicks into gear Wednesday, Aug. 8, continuing through the end of next week at the Georgia Theatre and Little Kings Shuffle Club and featuring a whiz-bang lineup that includes Guided by Voices, Elf Power, The Mummies, Man or Astro-man? and lots of other exciting stuff. (Check next week’s Flagpole for a full rundown, as well as the official festival program.) This year, the reinvigorated annual happening has added a pre-fest, locals-centric party featuring dynamic 18-year-old hip-hop artist Kxng Blanco and psychedelic indie-rock quintet Wieuca. The fun jumps off Tuesday evening at The Foundry, and—bonus!—admission is totally free.
