Marisa Anderson, John Kiran Fernandes, Michael Potter

There are plenty of contemporary musicians doing inventive and essential work in the realm of solo guitar composition, but Portland, OR songwriter Marisa Anderson is one of the best. For proof, scope out Cloud Corner, her newly released full-length (and first for celebrated indie label Thrill Jockey). The LP builds tastefully onto its American-primitive bedrock by nodding to everything from ethereal drone to Delta blues, experimenting with mood, pacing and texture along the way. Anderson is joined at Flicker by Athens avant-garde mainstay John Fernandes, as well as scene principal Michael Potter.
