Coinciding with the Lunar New Year, the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read program will celebrate the Year of the Dog with a series of events themed around To Live by Chinese author Yu Hua, as well as young-adult books by New York Times bestselling author Grace Lin. Saturday’s program includes traditional music, food and art-making, and free copies of Big Read books will be handed out. The series continues with a three-day introduction to Mandarin Feb. 21–23, a fashion show inspired by Chinese couture, a dumpling-making class, a book discussion, a theater performance of BFE and a guest appearance by Lin.
