Otonana Trio, Calico Vision, Hannie and the Slobs

After winning local converts with a Japan Nite performance at last year’s Slingshot Festival, upbeat, Tokyo-based funk-rock band Otonana Trio returns to Athens this week for a headlining gig at the Caledonia Lounge. The trio’s core appeal is its tuneful absurdity; songs like “No Ramen No Peace,” from last year’s Space Power Delight, feature sing-along choruses silly enough to make you forget your troubles, even if for an evening. Un-ironic slap bass abounds. Local support for Friday’s show comes courtesy of melodic, psychedelic rockers Calico Vision and angular art-rock act Hannie and the Slobs.
