About 60 miles up the road in DeKalb County is Clarkston, a small Atlanta suburb that represents a microcosm of the future of the U.S., with immigrants from more than 40 countries among its 8,000 residents. Peabody-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa examined the cultural diversity and interactions in Clarkston in an episode of her PBS show, “America by the Numbers.” Hinojosa, who also hosts the NPR program “Latino USA,” will screen the episode and lead a discussion on “The New South: The New People of America.” The event is sponsored by the Peabody Awards, the UGA library system and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute.
