Koko Buni Is Back and More Athens Beer News

One of Creature Comforts’ most popular seasonals, Koko Buni, is back in cans and on draft as of Tuesday.

The well-balanced milk porter (6.5% ABV) brewed with toasted coconut, Ecuadorian cocoa nibs from Condor Chocolates and an Ethiopian coffee blend from 1000 Faces can be, like many of Creature Comforts’ special releases, notoriously hard to find, so snatch some up if you see any.

In addition, Creature Comforts recently announced the return of its Get Comfortable charity campaign Jan. 10, when the brewery will host a local nonprofit each Wednesday through Apr. 4 and raise funds for those selected nonprofits.

The company is also making progress on its second brewery in Boulevard’s Southern Mill development. Look for a story on that next month.

Here’s a reminder, too, that Athens’ new brewpub Akademia is open in the old Musician’s Warehouse building on Atlanta Highway. The Flagpole staff enjoyed lunch there on Wednesday, and it’s well worth the trip. Owner Matt Casey already has big plans for expansion, with an outdoor patio, music venue, private event space and canning line coming soon.
