The last blog post of food events in Athens wasn’t enough for you? You want more? OK. Here goes:
Tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 30, noon–5 p.m.), you can head to Pinewoods (lot D-3) and buy tamales, tinga- and bean-topped tostadas, tacos dorados (i.e., taquitos), mole and more to benefit earthquake relief in Mexico.
This coming Monday, Oct. 2, and indeed all Mondays, Five & Ten has a special called “Bitter Mondays,” on which bitter drinks are only $6 at the bar.
Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., the Athens-Clarke County Library will host a cooking class as part of its Adulting U series of programs. Adrienne Hamil, catering manager for Heirloom Cafe, will teach attendees how to cook healthy meals on a budget.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, from 6–9 p.m. Athens Land Trust will hold its annual Harvest Moon Dinner benefit. Tickets are $150 ($75 tax-deductible), purchasable at the link, at ALT’s offices on Pope Street or by calling 706-613-0122 and get you a fine-dining farm-to-table meal cooked by Mimi Maumus of home.made.
Also on Oct. 7, from 2–11 p.m., Graduate Athens will hold its second annual BBQ, Bourbon and Blues Festival, with live music, drinks specials and cue. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door ($10 at the door with college ID).
On Friday, Oct. 13 from 4–8 p.m., Terrapin is having its annual charity chili cook-off. Charities complete for a cash prize, based on how good their chili is. Tickets are $10 and get you a vote, as many chili samples as you can cram in your face hole and a souvenir pint glass but beer, under the new rules, is purchased separately.
On Sunday, Oct. 15 from 6–9 p.m. UGA’s Indian Cultural Exchange organization will hold its annual Diwali Dinner, in the Tate Student Center Grand Hall. Tickets are $13–$18 and go on sale Monday.
Finally, UGArden has its fall festival scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 19 from 5–8 p.m., out at its barn on South Milledge Avenue.
