Donderos’ Grand Opening, Other Food Events Around Town

Donderos’ Kitchen

The new location of Donderos’ Kitchen has been open to the public in a soft way for a little while now, but its official grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m., with members of the Packway Handle Band supplying music.

The grocery has a new phone number (706-354-8688) and new hours (Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed Sunday), plus some new additions. Here’s what the press release says:

The new location is in one of the oldest houses in the Cobbham Historic District and offers a much larger sunlit dining space with a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Along with a full espresso bar, patrons will find expanded parking in the back, more meeting space for casual gatherings, and a screened in porch. A dedicated play area for children welcomes families and contributes to the neighborhood coffee shop character of the new space. There is plenty of room for casual meetings and free wi-fi is available. The same frozen entrees and baked goods are for sale in addition to local Jittery Joe’s and 1000 Faces coffee.

The discount for walkers and bikers remains.

The same day (Oct. 5) happens to mark Outstanding in the Field‘s visit to Woodland Gardens for an outdoor dinner cooked by Peter Dale (The National) and Kyle Jacovino (Five and Ten) to benefit SSAWG (the Southern Sustainable Agricultural Working Group). Outstanding in the Field hasn’t been to Woodland Gardens since 2004, and tickets ain’t cheap ($200). They’re available here.

Finally, on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., Avid Bookshop and 1000 Faces Coffee will host author Woody Tasch at the latter’s location. Tasch will discuss “How Slow Money Strategies Can Change Local Food Systems,” an interesting topic as well as the title of his book. Plus: snacks.

Avid will also host Taylor Mathis, author of “The Southern Tailgating Cookbook,” today at 6:30 p.m., if you need ideas for tomorrow’s game day action. Correction: Mathis will be at Avid Friday, Oct. 4, so you have not, in fact, missed it.
