Tin Drum Asia Cafe, an Atlanta chain focused on the college market, with locations near Georgia Tech and Emory as well as elsewhere, is opening the first of two restaurants in Athens today, in Beechwood Shopping Center. Starting at 11 a.m. today, the first 100 guests in line will receive free food from the restaurant for a year. Noodles, stir-fries, curries, rice bowls, salads, “street tacos,” soups and appetizers trend toward healthy and pan-Asian, with low prices and organic tofu. The exact location of Athens Tin Drum #2 hasn’t been specified yet, but with the absence of Doc Chey’s/Chango’s, the timing is excellent for another inexpensive, noodle-focused restaurant.
