Seed saving

Can’t make Janisse Ray’s appearance at Ciné tonight as part of Taste Your Place? Avid Bookshop is also hosting an “author visit” with her today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. That means the setting is informal, but Ray will also be happy to sign your book. Author of The Seed Underground, a book that focuses on seed savers across the country, Ray focuses on the importance of heirloom seeds, which carry within them varieties of produce that otherwise would be lost. If you’ve ever had a Brandywine tomato or a pink-eye potato, you’ve tasted that importance. Heirloom seeds mean a more varied world and, often, a tastier one.
