Zumba to Help Hungry Kids

You can tighten up your abs (or whatever) on Saturday and help out a good cause at the same time.

Food 2 Kids, the Athens chapter of The Links, Inc. and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia are hosting a Zumba-Thon from 4–7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Butts-Mehre building. The price of admission is a book bag with school supplies that will be filled with non-perishable food and distributed to local students in need.

“Many kids through out Greater Athens do not eat when they go home, and you know if they don’t have food to eat, they don’t have school supplies for school,” organizer Hope Iglehart says. “There is a high poverty rate here in Athens, and you would be surprised that the food that Food 2 Kids sends home to these kids may be the only meal they eat until they return to school to and eat their free and reduced breakfast and lunch.”

The Zumba-Thon instructors are Tania Mendoza Yelton and Latoya Wiggins.
