Georgia Football Kicks Off Saturday With a Side of Politics

Lexy Doherty

Georgia welcome the Marshall Thundering Herd to Athens on Saturday, and you know what that means — thousands of barking fans, traffic, tailgating and political candidates vying for votes from the Bulldog Nation.

Lexy Doherty, the Democrat running for Athens’ 10th Congressional District seat, will be among the politicos wandering through the sea of red and black on campus before the 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Her campaign will be collecting signatures urging the Trump administration to release the Epstein files:

The Lexy Doherty campaign will be out before the game on Saturday helping Dawg fans shake that off-season rust from their vocal cords by starting conversations about Jeffrey Epstein. No one stays quiet for long once Epstein is brought up.

It is our belief that a good ten decibels can be added to Dawgs fans’ volume in Sanford if we get these reps in during tailgate. The Marshall center won’t be able to hear his own thoughts, much less the quarterback. Just deafening. So, while Kirby has the guys stretching and drilling ahead of the game, we should be getting in some ranting to warm up pre-game.

Fans can find Lexy and campaign staff throughout the tailgate crowd on Saturday between 10:00am and 1:00pm. The campaign will be collecting signatures to demonstrate the overwhelming, bipartisan desire among Georgians to release the Epstein files.

Lexy will speak to supporters at 9:30am at Walker’s Pub. Press are invited to attend. Republican Congressional candidate Houston Gaines has been invited as well, and Lexy is looking forward to leading a bipartisan call for justice for Epstein’s victims.

Meanwhile, Gaines and Attorney General Chris Carr, who is running for governor, are expected to appear at the UGA College Republicans’ tailgate at Herty Field. (Carr’s opponent in the GOP primary, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, was rooting for Georgia Tech last night.)

In addition, Capitol Beat reports that Gov. Brian Kemp will make his first public appearance with Senate candidate Derek Dooley before Saturday’s game. After passing on the race himself, Kemp recruited Dooley to run because he doesn’t believe congressmen Mike Collins or Buddy Carter can beat incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff.
