The youth vote will be critical for Vice President Kamala Harris’ victory, U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff told a crowd of mainly college-age individuals on Monday at a College Square rally just across the street from the UGA campus.
Ossoff urged about 200-300 attendees to vote early at the Tate Student Center—one of several advance voting sites that opened this week—and to help get out the vote for Harris in what is likely to be an extremely close race.
“Do not ask yourself, ‘What more could I have done?'” Ossoff said. “There is still time on the clock.”
He reminded the audience of the Biden/Harris administration’s accomplishments, including $35 insulin for seniors, climate change legislation and an infrastructure law that’s providing clean water and broadband access for low-income families. He also noted that none it would have been possible had not Georgia elected two Democratic senators in 2020, making Harris the tie-breaking vote.
“Every day from now until Election Day, let’s give it everything we’ve got,” he said.
After Ossoff’s speech, students helped themselves to free Raising Cane’s chicken fingers. “Well, they’ve got my vote,” one quipped.
The senator then spent about 45 minutes posing for photos with constituents. He complimented one young man’s T-shirt that bore a slogan about “Warnock-ing our Ossoff” (a play on door-knocking).
