Local indie-rock band Red Dakota was originally formed by self-taught musicians Alyssa and Derek Terry, who set out to make music to satisfy their own creative itch, later adding like-minded members Christian Gerner-Smidt on guitar and Lauren Leathers on bass. The group released its first single, “Moving Forward,” in 2020, inspired by musical influences including Paramore, Maggie Rogers and Death Cab for Cutie, followed by its debut EP 4311 in 2021. Now the band is live-testing new songs from its upcoming EP, which is being recorded this summer at Full Moon Studio in Watkinsville. Red Dakota will be joined by Swear Jar and Karma Kat, making for a lineup of all-female vocalists.
