The honky tonk, soul and rock and roll sound of Emily Nenni’s newest record, Drive & Cry, transports listeners to the buzzing musical streets of Nashville. In a review for music outlet Americana UK, journalist David Jarman groups Nenni amongst vintage country revival artists like Sierra Ferrell, pointing out how her take on the genre comes from the “sassy edge to her vocals” and the sense that she is “having fun with her music.” The album’s team points to its roots in the legendary country scene, with production by John James Tourville of The Deslondes and mixing by Matt Ross-Spang, who has worked with John Prine and Jason Isbell. Nenni’s stage presence is one of her key attributes, having honed her craft with electrifying sets in the Nashville bar scene. Nenni’s show in Athens is part of her headline tour across the U.S., UK and Europe, and she is also slotted to support Orville Peck on tour this fall. Local musician T. Hardy Morris and fellow Nashvillians Teddy and The Rough Riders will be opening the show.
