Early this morning a small fire started at The Globe, a landmark restaurant on Lumpkin Street, that was extinguished by the sprinkler system. It is currently being investigated by the Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Department. The fire seems to have started by the back door, reports Norman Scholz, part owner and general manager of The Globe.
“We might have a slow start today, but we’ve got contractors already on site,” says Scholz. “If we don’t run into any major snags, we’ll be open this afternoon.”
The fire did not impact the dining room space. For updates on service, visit The Globe’s Facebook page.
