Athens-Clarke County has several public input opportunities over the next month for residents who are interested in how the city should grow and develop over the next 20 years.
Planners are in the early stages of developing a growth concept map to guide future land use. The last map, created around 2000, had profound consequences for Athens, restricting development in the “green belt” on the outskirts of the county and funneling it towards downtown, where it is less environmentally damaging and easier to provide services.

Upcoming public input opportunities include:
- A walk of Prince Avenue from 3:30-4:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, starting at the old firehall.
- A sit-down meeting Sept. 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the East Athens Dance Center.
- A sit-down meeting Sept. 27 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Whit Davis Elementary.
- A sit-down meeting Sept. 28 from 5:30-7 p.m. at J.J. Harris Elementary.
