A pedestrian bridge over Thomas Street on the UGA campus has been closed after a routine inspection found that the bridge is structurally unsound and needs replacement.

The wooden bridge, located near the intersection of South Thomas and Baldwin streets, connects the N08 parking lot and the Latin American Ethnobotanical Garden.

The university urged pedestrians—particularly football fans in town for the season opener against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday—to use the three crosswalks nearby.

The bridge will be replaced as quickly as possible, but it could take up to 90 days, said Ralph Johnson, associate vice president for facilities management.
