Scooterbabe: scooterbabe2@gmail.com Review

I saw Scooterbabe live a couple times, and I was always impressed with the tight presentation. They had great chemistry as musicians, and it showed. The band’s new (and final?) record, scooterbabe2@gmail.com, blisters out of the gate with “Six-Month Pillow Fort,” which hits the listener like a small tornado of cool breezes.

The other three songs—“Know That I Don’t Want You,” “Last Year Was Alright” and “Starry Background”—are all slower and slightly mellower. The band’s style hasn’t changed much since its self-titled debut EP, but certain tricks do stick out, like the sudden, swirling guitar vacuum on “Last Year Was Alright,” which asserts itself with a brief pause after the Bedhead-like opening.

That song also features a reprisal of a vocal refrain from “Annelise,” from the first record (“I hope it all burns down”). In all, Scooterbabe hasn’t really changed; they’ve just added to their already sterling collection.
