Athens GA Live Music Recap: Bunneroo, AthFest, Keep Athens Nasty and More

This was a big week for festivals in Athens! Our week kicked off with a two-day summer solstice celebration called Bunneroo Festival at Rabbit Hole Studios. On Monday, June 20, we captured sets by Iris, Lea Lea and the Wishful Thinkers, Reverend Sly, The Land Trust JamFam, MYNAWA, Athens Middle East Orchestra, Climbing Cedars, Almighty Strange Ducks and Scott Laniak.

On Tuesday, June 21, we returned to Bunneroo where we saw John Fernandes, Rick & The Morties, Official LB, DK, Squeeze the Squid, Ostrich Band, Amelia, Lorena Limongi and more.

Easing us into a big weekend, New West Records hosted the official AthFest Kick Off Party at the 40 Watt with Lilly Hyatt and Joshua Hedley on Wednesday, June 23.

That night, we also stepped next door to Flicker Theatre and Bar for a show with The Asymptomatics, The Grawks and Small.

Time for the AthFest Music & Arts Festival! On Friday, June 24, A.D. Blanco, lighthearted, GrandVille, Convince the Kid, Elijah Johnston, Convict Julie, Neighbor Lady and Hotel Fiction performed on the outdoor stages.

After a long day in the heat, we caught Niño Brown and Wieuca at the Georgia Theatre before calling it a night.

Back at AthFest on Saturday, June 25! On the outdoor stages, we caught Kadillak, Telemarket, Jock Gang, Cannon & the Boxes, Mother Fore, Shameless James, Blunt Bangs, Kxng Blanco, Vincas, Immaterial Possession, Shehehe, Cassie Chantel and Vision Video.

Saturday’s AthFest show at the 40 Watt Club was a special one with The Woggles and Maserati.

Over at Hendershot’s Coffee that night, Pervert played at Keep Athens Nasty.

Ciné, meanwhile, hosted a metal show with Sundering Seas and Strawberry Reproduction.

On to the final day of AthFest! Ty Manning and the Slawdog Biscuits, Hunter Morris & Blue Blood, Larry’s Homework, Duddy Ken, ISHUES, The Arcs, Quiet Hounds and The Howdies played on the outdoor stages on Sunday, June 26.
