Athens garage-punk group Kwazymoto has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on a new full-length titled Limerence Land—the successor to last year’s On Mount Rennie—which it plans to release Friday, Oct. 13.
To get folks hyped for the new LP, the band created a stop-motion video for its lead single, the pleasantly deranged “Defamed Fatale.” We’re pleased to premiere the tune and its accompanying clip, which you can play below:
The band’s guitarist and vocalist, Ian Hemerlein, says the gripping tune “is taken from a larger narrative created in Limerence Land, but specifically focuses upon the anxiety and entrapment of commitment to toxic relationships and loss of individuality that inevitably comes from companionship.
“The video is meant to provoke overstimulation and serve as a representation of the constant, sporadic changes in the song’s structure, as well as provide a sense of tongue-in-cheek campiness to the lyricism that borders on becoming absurdly dark,” Hemerlein continues, adding that the song is the band’s first to feature additional musicians beyond the core trio, with Slade Adams on violin, Trent Johnson on trumpet and vocal harmonies by Michael Money.
Limerence Land was recorded by Zeke Sayer at Gypsy Farm Studio and mixed and mastered by Matt Martin at his home studio and Chase Park Transduction. Kwazymoto will celebrate its release with a headlining show at the Caledonia Lounge on Saturday, Oct. 21.
