Hold on to your butts (er, beards?): For just the second time since resurfacing in 2013, acclaimed indie-folk outfit Neutral Milk Hotel will play their hometown.
On Sunday, May 10, the Jeff Mangum-led Elephant 6 torchbearers will headline the Orange Twin Conservation Community, just north of Athens. They’ll be joined by E6 stalwarts Circulatory System, Elf Power, Robert Schneider, the Music Tapes and Thimble Circus.
Tickets to the show are $35, include parking and will be available starting this Friday, Apr. 24 at 10 a.m. at Wuxtry Records and Low Yo Yo Stuff in downtown Athens. Each customer may purchase up to four tickets. In an effort to curb scalping, customers must sign their tickets at the time of purchase, then show a matching ID and be accompanied by any guests at the gate.

The concert will be a benefit for the Orange Twin Conservation Community. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, camp chairs and food and drink to this event. No dogs and no glass allowed, and no overnight camping.
Venue parking will be located just around the corner at J.J. Harris Charter School, 2300 Danielsville Rd. Athens, GA 30601, with free ongoing shuttle service (courtesy of Broad River Outpost) to the venue stage. Please carpool, as parking is free but limited.
Gates open at 2:30 p.m., with music starting at 4 p.m. Neutral Milk Hotel plays at sundown, and the show will be over by 10 p.m., and all cars must be out of school parking lot by midnight.
Orange Twin, it’s worth noting, has not hosted a public concert since legendary underground figure Jandek‘s performance at the venue in summer 2012.
Neutral Milk Hotel has employed a heavy touring regimen in the wake of their much-ballyhooed full-band reunion, headlining major festivals like Pitchfork and Coachella, in addition to many club dates across the country.
Their Athens show comes one day after an appearance at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Festival on Saturday, May 9. (The fest also features The Strokes, Wilco, Interpol, Pixies, The Avett Brothers, Ride, Ryan Adams and other heavy-hitters.) In late May, the band will set off on a summer tour of the West Coast. The May 10 gig marks the first time Mangum and company have performed in Athens in a year-and-a-half. Shortly after returning to action, Neutral Milk Hotel played three consecutive sold-out shows at the 40 Watt Club. Read our October 2013 feature on the band’s comeback.
