Queer Arts Athens will host its second Queer Cabaret on Sept. 8 at Paloma Park. The organization, started by local community organizer David Cowan, focuses on providing a safe space for queer expression in the form of events and cabaret-style performances. The first event showcased poetry, comedy, burlesque, drag, acting and theatrical productions. The upcoming cabaret features a ‘90s theme, with first and second place prizes for attendees with the best ‘90s costumes, as well as an open dance floor once the formalities have concluded. Queer Arts Athens hopes to soon expand to include classes, community activities and professional theatrical productions. It’s all part of Queer Arts Athens’ goal to “provide performance opportunities for queer artists, connect queer community and educate queer leaders.”
