Though they came up in the same Seattle-area scene that spawned Nirvana and Soundgarden, The Posies never caught on like their zeitgeist-defining contemporaries; their sunny power-pop was more Big Star than Big Black. Yet it went on to influence influencers like Weezer and Fountains of Wayne, whose hyper-melodic rock owes much to The Posies’ measured approach. Thirty years after the group’s debut, Failure, it’s embarking on a celebratory tour featuring core members Ken Stringfellow—also an R.E.M. associate—and Jon Auer, as well as alums Dave Fox and Mike Musburger. Omnivore is also in the process of reissuing three of the band’s early records, including the understated classic Frosting on the Beater.
