“Once more foundered on this delightful shore,” a new series of paintings by local artist Benjamin Britton, explores the balance between abstraction and representational allegory. Pulling inspiration from memory, fantasy, identity and mythology, the artist often reworks textile patterns and details of specific settings into ambiguous narratives presented through a rich color palette and mash-up of techniques. Currently an assistant professor of painting and drawing at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Britton has a BFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York, and a MFA in painting from the University of California, Los Angeles. His paintings will remain on view through Sunday, Nov. 6.
