Filmed on the Chattahoochee and Flint rivers by Atlanta native David Hanson and his brother Michael and edited by Andrew Komylak, Who Owns the Water? premieres at Ciné on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m., with a reception at 6:30 p.m. featuring complimentary hors d’oeuvres from The National and a cash bar. This is not talking heads; this is butts on the water, as they paddle the length of both rivers all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. The film was shown at Telluride and was also named best documentary at the Lookout Wild Film Festival. David Hanson will discuss the film following the screening.
This will also be the launch party for Chattahoochee River Users Guide by Joe Cook, published by the UGA Press in August as the second in a series of waterproof guides to Georgia’s rivers, including their cultural and natural history. Tickets are $7.50 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at athenscine.com. The event is co-sponsored by the UGA Environmental Ethics program, UGA Press and Georgia River Network.
