Don Chambers, Jacob Morris

Local songwriter Don Chambers is best known for his work with GOAT, his hard-rocking backing band. With that group, Chambers has explored the dark corners of Southern gospel and roots music with noisy abandon. But he took a left turn with this year’s A Sudden Loss of Elevation, a stark, pretty 12-song collection of contemplative folk. Thayer Sarrano and Sanni Baumgärtner assisted on that record, but for the show Thursday, Chambers will be joined by longtime drummer John Barner. The pair will run through tunes from Elevation as well as reinterpretations of songs from Chambers’ extensive back catalog. Jacob Morris will open with a set of his rich folk-pop; as an added and unexpected bonus, magician Stephen Haussman will entertain the crowd between sets.
