Mike Mills to Play Solo at Ciné, Tickets on Sale Today

On Friday, Mar. 29, Ciné will host an event called “Songs @ Ciné,” which will feature the songwriting and performing talents of a handful of Athens luminaries: Don Chambers, Dave Marr, Thayer Sarrano and Hardy Morris.

And, oh yeah, Mike Mills, too. The R.E.M. bassist and songwriter will perform solo for perhaps the first time in an official capacity—or, at least, the first time in a long damn time. This is big news, folks.

The event is being presented by the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts and sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research as part of the Thinc. at UGA Entrepreneurial Week. Tickets, which go on sale today, Mar. 12 at 6 p.m. on the Ciné website, are $30 in advance. If you're a UGA student, you can attempt to win one of 30 free tickets by emailing, also today at 6. "If any tickets remain the evening of the event," reads the university's press release, "they will be sold for $35." But that's probably wishful thinking.

Proceeds from the event will go to help Ciné purchase a much-needed digital projection system, so this is basically a win-mother-effin'-win. Look for more info in this week's Threats & Promises.
