Watkinsville's Panaderia Tacuari (near Publix) has added beer, wine and margaritas to its menu. Hooray!
Savvy Cakes, in Statham, has added Saturday and Sunday brunch from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., with a build-your-own omelet option and a pancake bar.
Transmetropolitan, downtown, has changed its name to Starland Pizzeria and Pub, reflecting a rebranding that's been in the works for a while, after the restaurant changed hands a while back. The goal is to return to the basics: big slices, sandwiches and a few other things, with a full bar. Here's the menu.
Koa Bowls, also downtown, has changed its name, to Koa Surf Bar and Restaurant, reflecting the fact that it also serves drinks.
Crazy Dough's Artisan Slice Bar and Restaurant is open in the Mark development, and Frutta Bowls is having its grand opening Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m.–9 p.m. The first 50 people get a coupon for a free bowl of fruit and whatnot.
Also this Saturday, Chef Garrett MacFalda, of Heirloom Cafe, will be showing you how to make summer squash soup at the West Broad Farmers Market at 11 a.m.
Wings Over Athens, a chicken franchise, is open downtown at the corner of Jackson and Broad. And Poké Bar, a national franchise, has a new location in the giant shopping center on the Oconee Connector, next to Gigi's Cupcakes and near the movie theater.
East Side Eats, a YWCO event that lets you taste a bunch of food from Eastside restaurants, will take place Sunday, Sept. 30 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each ahead of time (buy them at the YWCO or by calling 706-354-7880) or $25 at the door (free for kids 3 and under). Participating restaurants include Beef O’ Bradys, Chick-fil-A, Craft Public House, Edible Arrangements, Fatz Café, Frutta Bowl, Inoko Sushi Express, Jimmy Johns, Locos, Siri Thai, Sweetie Pie by Savie, The Falls, Trumps Catering, Wok Star and Your Pie.
