Behold, chicken fans: Valhalla.

The new downtown location of Zaxby’s, which may be a chicken franchise but at least is our chicken franchise, with headquarters in Oconee County, will celebrate its grand opening Monday, Jan. 25 with a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m.

Occupying the former George Dean’s menswear store, in a historic building at 227 Clayton St., the store will be open until 2 a.m. Thursday–Saturday (because drunkies) and opens at 10:30 a.m. Monday–Saturday (11 a.m. Sunday).

But enough about that. Will there be free food? No, but there are prizes. The first 100 folks in the door get “a Fanatic Pack of 52 Free Dealz—meaning a free item at Zaxby’s each week for a year,” according to the press release. Ten of those will also include a $50 gift card to spend at Zaxby’s.

The release also points out that 10 percent of proceeds on Monday will be donated to Downtown Academy, a private school that focuses on “Christ-centered education.”
