Website: Georgia Fans Can Barely Speak English

When the plagiarism-checking website Grammarly.com re-ranked the Top 25 college football teams according to how well their fans write, the SEC did well.

UGA, not so much. The Bulldog Nation has the second-worst grammar of any Top 25 fan base (supposedly).

Grammarly took the first five comments of 50 words or more from posts on each team’s SB Nation blog over a two-month period until they collected 100 comments, and ran them through their grammar-checking program. Human proofreaders then verified the mistakes. The site calculated the average number of errors per 100 words to arrive at the rankings.

They are:

1. Auburn*

2. TCU

3. Oregon

4. Ole Miss**

5. LSU***

6. Stanford

7. Arizona

8. Boise State

9. Tennessee

10. Oklahoma

11. USC

12. Ohio State

13. Missouri

14. Arkansas

15. Notre Dame

16. UCLA

17. Florida State

18. Michigan State

19. Arizona State

20. Wisconsin

21. Georgia Tech

22. Clemson

23. Baylor

24. Georgia

25. Alabama****

Grammarly did a similar analysis for Major League Baseball and NFL comments. Braves fans make the 9th most mistakes, and Falcons fans the 10th most. We’re not too bright here in Georgia, I guess. Whatever. Go Dawgs!

* I’m not even sure Auburn has an English department.

**My alma mater and home of William Faulkner, who wasn’t exactly known for using proper grammar and punctuation. We would’ve been No. 1 if it wasn’t for Dr. Bo Wallace.

***Have you ever heard a Cajun accent? This can’t be right.

****On the other hand, I’m absolutely confident Alabama is properly ranked.
