Love Shack Bus Stop Tops Kickstarter List

Dana Jo Cooley’s Love Shack bus stop, which now sits on North Chase Street, was picked as the best Kickstarter project for March 2012. Last year, Cooley needed partial funding for the realization of a design that was chosen by the Athens Area Arts Council, and ended up exceeding her $2,500 goal.

Here’s how she described it on the Kickstarter site:

the concept for my bus shelter design, is based on the b-52’s hit song love shack. it was also inspired by my love shack art installation, 2004. the b-52’s are a symbol of the creative, musical environment that is athens, georgia. it will likely appeal to transit riders of all ages. the shack will be, “a little ole’ place to get together,” and wait on the bus! it will not only be an aesthetic addition to the city, but also a landmark of love and art for all.
